On the eastern edge of Georgian Bay, Cogneshene is a water front community, about a 20 minute boat ride (6 miles North West) from the town of Honey Harbour, and can can only be accessed by water. The community travels by boat throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall, and many snowmobile trails accessible in winter, make winter access to the cottages quite simple all year round.
A Bit About Georgian Bay Township
About one half hour north of Barrie on Highway 400, you will enter the Township of Georgian Bay at Port Severn, the main gateway to the west side of Muskoka. The Township consists of two urban centers; one in the South called Port Severn and one in the North is MacTier. Both of these towns are serviced by water and sewer and are anxious to support new development. Port Severn has a number of new developments in the Planning stages with one already well under way and recently they opened a world class 18 Hole Golf Course. Port Severn is also the gateway to the Trent Severn Waterway at Lock 45 and the famous Marine Railway at Big Chute.
From Exit 156 at Port Severn when one travels north-westerly along Muskoka Road 5, you will enter the beautiful Hamlet of Honey Harbour. Honey Harbour is home to numerous marinas and places of accommodation providing service to residents and visitors. The 30,000 Islands stretch northward from Honey Harbour along the eastern shore of Georgian Bay. They form a beautiful archipelago with unique and, in my opinion, the most beautiful rock formations in the world. Our Township boasts to be the 13th UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Canada.
